What is a Birth Doula?

Continuous care for body and mind during your unique path to parenthood.

A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the birthing person before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. Unlike medical staff, my role is to focus entirely on your comfort and agency, ensuring you feel heard and supported every step of the way.

How It Works

Pregnancy

We begin with two prenatal visits to build trust, discuss your birth preferences, and prepare physically and emotionally for labor. I'm available via text for ongoing questions and support.

Labor

I provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support from the onset of active labor through your baby's first hours. I remain a steady, calm presence by your side throughout the entire process. I provide dedicated 1:1 comfort measures including positioning, massage, and breathing techniques to help you navigate each stage of labor more comfortably.

Postpartum

Within the first week after birth, we have a follow-up visit to process your birth story, discuss newborn care, and ensure you feel supported in your transition to parenthood.

Common Questions

How does a doula differ from a midwife?

While midwives focus on the clinical and medical safety of you and your baby, I focus on your emotional wellbeing and physical comfort. We work together as a team to ensure you feel both safe and deeply supported.

Will a doula replace my partner's role?

Never. My presence actually helps your partner participate more fully by taking the pressure off them to be the only source of support. I guide them in how to best help you, making the experience more connected for both of you.

What does 1:1 support actually look like?

It means you have my undivided attention. From our prenatal meetings to the moment your baby is in your arms, I am there solely for you, providing continuous presence that hospital staff often cannot maintain due to clinical duties.

Do you offer medical advice or procedures?

As a doula, I do not perform medical tasks or deliver babies. I provide information to help you make your own informed decisions and offer physical comfort measures like massage and positioning.
